Photo reference: [link]
Time: 10 + hours
Tools: Wacom graphire3 tablet, macromedia fireworks, patience...

I took a screenie of the face when i was doing it.. if you want to see why this took so long, this is a good example of the extensive tonal work involved - [link] (that was a shot before i smoothed it with the blur tool!)

Erm.. my first portrait attempt.. i'm quite happy with it i guess... i just hate the shirt, i changed the colour and had hell getting the tones right coz i couldn't pickup colours off the reference image.... so as you can tell, i eventually just gave up and blurred the whole thing... lol.

The things that gave me the most irritation were:
- the eyes (i changed the one of the left - lightened it a little)
- the lips... (always my weak point)
- THE HAIR!!!! (took me around 2 hours and 3 goes at it!!!!! grr)
- the lace! (i got rid of all of it but the bit on her chest...)
- the buttons... i got one right, so i copied and pasted it lol, then gave up on the left side lol (and blurred over it)

Things to note:
-I took out the cuff on the left arm (it can be seen in the reference image) and tried my best to make her hand look normal... (i failed at that)
-The eye on the left is lighter than the original reference pic (in which it is shadowed)... i wanted it more defined....
-The right arm looks dodgy!!!
-I changed the colour of her corset... the maroon didnt look right... lol
-The only reason the proportions are right is because i traced the outlines as a new layer, which then became the foundation for my drawing. (i know it's kinda cheating.... but i just wanted this to look right!!!)

Amy Lee has been one of my major music inspirations for a while, along with ella hooper from killing heidi - both of them have been accepted into a music scene that generally stereotypes all female performers in the 'pop' or 'R'n'B' genres. For that, they have gained my attention, and my respect.

It's nice to have some self-respecting female performers who can resist the urge to de-clothe themselves during a video clip.

I don't really see what you changed from the original photo besides color and such. Was this a drawing you did by hand, and then photoshopped it, or was it that you just did a kind of photomanip. If it's a drawning. . . Wow great work, but if it's a manip. . . well I don't like purple so I like the original image better.
